On my 44th birthday. I decided to stop waiting. I’d always wanted to travel, but my husband (for health reasons and because he’s a homebody) has other priorities. So I started from scratch, saved $10,000, and took my then 9yo daughter on a five week trip to Europe (London, Paris, Rome) soon after my 45th birthday. The Dream part 2 is planned for next year – my (by then 9yo) son and I will do a similar trip (Paris, Venice, Rome). I’ve told people that I want to do a big trip every second year, but the real dream is a lot bigger – to spend half my time somewhere else, and half at home. Perhaps that will work out as 3-month blocks. Perhaps those blocks will be in one place at a time, so I can get to know the people and the place. Perhaps I will take one child, or two, or convince my husband to come along sometimes. Perhaps sometimes it will just be me. I can take my current work with me, but I also dream of being an artist, and i have a feeling it’s all tied in.

I don’t aim to die young to meet the Buddha or Lord or whatever is behind the red velvet curtain. I don’t aim to find the prophet Deborah or the Bodhisattva and have them whisper wisdom in my ear. I don’t aim to buy enlightenment with money. I don’t aim to find it in a catalogue of kitchen goods or in a remodeled bathroom. I don’t aim for a look that shouts, “Enlightened women walks here…” I aim to live each moment and to wring meaning from the mundane as there are more mundane moments than any other kind. I aim to spend some time each day staring out of a window. I aim to spend some time each day reading. I aim to spend some time each day writing. I aim to spend some time each day teaching. I aim to spend some time each day responding to a need that is not mine. I aim to spend some time each day cleaning up. I aim to spend some time each day preparing my own food and feeding my family. I aim to spend some time each day sitting with something that makes me uncomfortable and doing nothing but holding my discomfort.

I saved every penny I had for months when I decided I would travel to Thailand in 2007. I was closer to my 20´s back then. Now I am much closer to my 30´s and caring a new dream: living in Indonesia! Anyone who has tasted the magic of travelling with open eyes, heart and mind can´t help but to want to keep on catching planes, buses and rides all around the world! I would love to keep on travelling but most of all, I would LOVE to live in Indonesia! Southeast Asia is captivating and my heart is specifically set on this amazingly beautiful country. I am 28 years old and I know it doesn´t sound like too many but I have no degree (I droped out of college before I finished my English Teaching bachelor degree), no job and no house of my own. I most confess, I feel discouraged about this and feel very limited money-wise… which is why I found yours an absolutely motivating and extraordinary story! I want to learn how to think outside the box and regain confidence in my own dreams!

Instantly, I felt my life is so worthless – my existence doesn’t weigh any value. And so I started contemplating of what I really wanna do with my life. I’m 23, just a high school graduate, but surely, there must be something I could do than just earn a few bucks and go along with the daily repetitive cycle of my life.

I started dreaming about travelling. But not without a purpose. I’d love to enjoy the wonderful scenery of the world and marvel about God’s creations… But there’s more.

I want to meet people. I want to engage. I want to communicate. I want to feel. I want to see. I want to hear… And most of all, I dream to touch…

In the journey that I want to pursue in the near future, as I’m travelling, I want to touch people. I don’t like seeing all the negative news I hear and see everyday. So many people are hurting. So many people are hopeless…

So, I intend to do what I can. No, I don’t dream of becoming a world-changer. It can be done, maybe. But I stick to what’s possible – something real and something that’s not very conspicuous.

In my simple way, with the very least talent I have, I want to help people realize their worth. Because I believe that all of us are unique. And there’s something in us that will allow us to shine in our own special ways. So every time I meet a stranger, I want to look directly to his eyes, smile at him and make him feel that someone cares to believe… Yes, I want everyone I get to know to believe that life is not that bad. Life is not worthless. It’s full of glorious mystery that we can only unravel once we believe.

And so… I dream of creating a life intended to live the good life :)

I’m discovering your site after retiring already and achieving many things I set out to do in my lfietime: an impactful teaching career, family with four kids and 3 grandkids (so far,) wrote a book about creating happiness and then I fell in love with the reach I could have through the Internet.

The one goal I have begun, but not fully achieved is to visit and experience the people and doings of every continent. I made a small dent in this plan, but got sidetracked a bit with coaching, hosting a radio show, writing and managing several sites.

I believe I was lead to your site, book and experiences to set me back on my world travel plan.

I want to use my life to make a difference in the lives of women survivors of war. I also want to volunteer at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Mine Action Center (BHMAC) to so I can do my part to help educate and raise awareness about landmines that are still littering the country. Last but not least, I want to take pictures of Bosnia’s gorgeous landscapes and cityscapes and share them with the world so that people know there is so much more to Bosnia & Herzegovina than the war.
